Students across our community have been enjoying delicious organic produce this week and last that was made possible by a collaboration with two other neighboring school districts. We’re big fans of the quality school food produced by the dedicated teams at Tahoe Truckee School District and Western Placer School District, and appreciate the friendship and collaboration with their Directors, Kat Soltanmorad and Christina Lawson. So when we received a phone call from Kat asking if we wanted to join forces on a group purchase, we knew tasty results were in our future!
Kat had been in conversation with Conscious Kitchen about an opportunity to get a delivery of some fantastic organic produce from a group of farmers on the Central Coast, but delivering a partial truckload didn’t make the numbers work, especially given the razor thin budgets school food works within. However by joining together with our neighbors, the three districts were able to make the delivery minimum and the result can be seen, heard, and tasted in cafeterias across our region!
We are so grateful for these and other partnerships across the entire network of School Food teams in California committed to creating delicious, healthy meals for students sourced as locally as possible. Working together, we get the best results: Kids win, Farmers win, and our Communities win!
