Welcome to the launch of Community Roots School Food Services Agency! I couldn’t be more excited to share this moment with you as we take our first steps into a bold new chapter for school meals in Western Nevada County.
Community Roots was founded on the belief that school food should do more than fill stomachs—it should nourish minds, strengthen local communities, and reflect the values we hold dear. We’re proud to be the first countywide school food agency in California to unify meal service for preschool through 12th grade. That’s right—from our youngest learners in preschool to graduating seniors, every student in Western Nevada County will soon be connected by one cohesive, community-centered food system.
Beginning July 1, 2025, Community Roots will officially take over food service operations for the 2025–26 school year. Right now, we’re laying the groundwork—hiring staff, preparing facilities, and streamlining operations to ensure a smooth transition. Most importantly, we’re building this agency around the same incredible foodservice professionals who have been feeding their schools and neighbors for years. These team members are the heart of Community Roots, and we are honored they are continuing this journey with us.
Our tag line is simple: Real Food. Real Growth. That means scratch-cooked meals, sourced as locally as possible, served with care and pride. It also means investing in a stronger, more resilient food system—one that lifts up local farmers, creates quality jobs, and ensures every student has access to nutritious, delicious meals every day.
